In-Between the Trees

In-between the Trees is a small organisation whose aim is to maximise the benefits of nature connection to enhance inclusive practice for all. Established by Emily Whiteley, an experienced teacher of 30 years with expertise in designing creative programmes and workshops to deliver unique experiences for children and young people.

Emily is a Forest School Practitioner and Specialist Leader in Education for Outdoor Learning, Autism & SEND. She also works part-time as a facilitator for the NHS delivering training in learning disabilities and autism.

Based in Sheffield, Emily works across Yorkshire and internationally directly with children and young people or via training for adults working with them. This offer can be tailor-made one off workshops and events to long-term packages to suit.

Their work is varied aiming to inspire and empower, including; talks and practical workshops on supporting SEND and neurodiversity through nature, Forest School tasters & pilot projects, making natural jewellery and fiddle toys, environmental art, sensory circuits, how to prioritise nature connection in the curriculum, design of engaging intervention programmes for school non-attenders or ways to host team building sessions such as cooking on a campfire in the woods.

Emily is passionate about building capacity to empower professionals to make small practical changes which have lasting impact for young people with complex needs.
