Helen Moyes Designs

A freelance Visual Artist, specialising in textiles and mixed media. I devise and deliver creative workshops and projects, to all ages and abilities within the community and at my own Ecclesall Textile School. My ethos is a tailored, flexible person-centred approach to learning, with well-being at its heart. I encourage all ages to experiment and play with the enjoyment of the creative process being more important than the results.

When I was 7 years old I remember asking my Great Aunt Nora to teach me to use the sewing machine. That day my great Aunt gave me several gifts: the chance to have a go the belief that I could learn to sew her support and encouragement. And I love to give those same gifts today, whether it is in sewing, felting, printing, embellishing, modelling, painting ...

For the past couple of years, I have run a children's stitch club for children 8+ during the school holidays at Ecclesall Textile School. I have worked in educational environments for over 15 years, predominantly in Primary settings. For several years this was as a Family Learning Tutor. I have worked as a registered childminder for 30 years, caring for children from 5 months to 14 years. Currently, this involves afterschool care for children 7 - 10 years old.

Previously I have co-led a youth group for 11 - 14 year olds, worked with teenage parents, and with those wishing to move on from addiction. I have led creative activities with patients (and their families) at The Sheffield Children's Hospital.

I currently work with Ignite Imaginations, facilitating a wide variety of creative sessions in schools and in the community, these include children with disabilities and hard to reach groups and families. I have also delivered work for Children's University devising workshops in libraries.
