Ford Collier
I am a Radio 2 Folk Award Nominated multi-instrumentalist, specialising in UK folk traditions and exploring cultural meeting points with musical traditions around the world. I regularly tour the UK and write and record music with two boundary-pushing folk bands: global folk collective Mishra and electro-folk outfit The Drystones. I am also a music educator, giving one-to-one instrument lessons and workshops in schools and arts organisations on folk music, percussion, folklore, storytelling, songwriting, and composition.
I am a musician and storyteller working with global music traditions and folklore. My work focuses around new musical experiences for children and young people, by way of my diverse range of instruments (Celtic, Indian, African, Eastern-European). This includes demonstrations and explanations alongside participatory music making including rhythm and percussion skills, singing, and composing. As an oral storyteller I can engage children and young people in folklore and history through performance, at the same time as working on language and speech skills, confidence in public-speaking, creative writing or simply firing imaginations. I have 5 years of experience and qualifications in working with children who have SEND and SEMH needs.
