Flying Fish Studio

Flying Fish studio is an art space based in Sheffield, opposite Endcliffe Park. Owner and artist, Hannah Lord, is trained in Montessori education and runs her art workshops based on a person-centred approach to learning, with children and adult's wellbeing at its heart. Her ethos is centred on play and enjoyment of the creative process.

Hannah runs workshops in a whole range of different mediums - including needle felting, wet felting, printmaking, quilling and glass fusing. These are offered at the studio, or she can travel to other venues across Sheffield. Hannah offers afterschool workshops as well as creative experiences at parties, get togethers and community events.

More recently, Hannah has created video tutorials and craft boxes for use at home. These have been carefully designed to reflect Flying Fish studio's ethos and have received outstanding reviews.

Here is some information about the work we offer children and young people:

Free art tutorials

During this time of social distancing, it has been really important to Hannah that children and young people are able to enjoy being creative in their own homes, knowing the positive effect that this can have on a person's wellbeing. For this reason, Hannah has put together free art tutorials for people to access online. During this particularly difficult time, art can be a safe haven of rest, and creating art can provide children and young people with a sense of purpose and achievement. The tutorials are really clear and engaging, and whilst we can't gather together, Hannah hopes that these tutorials encourage people to create time in their homes to "play". It can also help to build family relationships - lots of parents she knows have been learning these crafts alongside their children.

Craft boxes

Craft boxes can be purchased to accompany these tutorials. Recently, Hannah has been contacted by charities and as a result has carefully designed a new range of craft boxes to improve the wellbeing of children who are in vulnerable or disadvantaged situation. These new craft boxes don't require internet access, as the tutorials are accessible either via a booklet, in addition to her video tutorials on YouTube. Parental support required is minimal and is dependent on age.

Description of Craft Box: The craft box contains high quality materials for 4 different craft activities, as well as a zen scroll and watercolours for open ended art. Materials for "free play" are also included. The 4 easy-to-follow art tutorials are: Pulled string art, Paper people pictures, Cotton Bud art and Quilling. The craft materials are presented in a box, beautifully tied with a ribbon, allowing the children to keep coming back to their 'art studio', with the contents safe and all in one place. Please click here to listen to Hannah's YouTube video, explaining the craft box in more depth, alongside the benefits that it can provide: https://youtu.be/Biw4RXYmHhA.

Age range: 4 years - 11 years

Cost per unit: £25 per box (for orders 100+). Please contact Hannah Lord regarding smaller quantities.

Smaller craft boxes are available for £10 per unit (on orders 100+). These include 3 of the workshops with fewer "free play" materials. These are suitable for ages 4-18.

Flying Fish studio's craft boxes and tutorials have received outstanding reviews:

"We love our craft box thank you so much! We were very excited to unwrap such a beautiful box of goodies and it is so clearly a big step up from the usual craft kits available." – Laura (May 2020)

“Thank you so much for the fabulous craft boxes, Hannah! Our two boys and girl (8,6 and 3) were all so excited at the arrival of the boxes with their names beautifully written on the front in calligraphy and tied with gorgeous red ribbons! They've loved watching the tutorials and having a go themselves. All the materials are lovely and we always appreciate your encouraging, caring and clear guides.” – Tim (May 2020)
