Inspired by the City of Rivers exhibition, make a creature or object which might be found in our waterways. Then, grab some tissue paper and pick some poetic words to help create our room-sized river.

Take inspiration from the Phlegm: Pandemic Diary [LINK] exhibition and create characters and a simple story for your own comic strip to take home! 

Family Activity: Fun with Fonts!

Kelham Island Museum 

Suggested donation £3, just drop in 

Find out about Sheffield’s own Stephenson Blake and Co. type foundry, which made the letters used to print books, newspapers and more before digital printing was invented. Then learn about letterpress printing methods, and design and print your own bookmark with help from The Smallprint Company.

Learn about the amazing Anglo Saxon shields in the museum’s Beneath your Feet display, then design and make your very own version to take home.  

 

Family Activity: Well Dressings

Wednesday 10 April, 12pm – 3pm

Inspired by the traditional well dressings that are created in the Peak District and Derbyshire during early summer each year, create your own mosaic masterpiece using air drying clay and other materials.  

Family Activity: Animal Abodes

Thursday 11 April, 12pm – 3pm 

Kelham Island Museum 

Suggested donation £3, just drop in 

Learn about the habitats of the wildlife that live in our waters. Then create a creature and, using natural materials, build them a home in a jar to take away with you.
