Sheffield’s Creative Industries Showcase – Sessions for Secondary Schools
The creative industries in Sheffield are vibrant and full of opportunity, yet many young people don’t see themselves as part of this world. Teachers and career advisors in schools don’t always know the full range of roles that exist.
For Discover! Creative Careers Week 2024, we’re bringing together professionals from various creative sectors—both the well-known ones like theatres and galleries, and others like video game design, advertising, festivals, music production, graphic design, architecture, and more.
Our goal is to break down stereotypes and misconceptions about who can thrive in creative careers. We know that young people are eager to meet and hear from individuals who grew up in their communities and have gone on to build successful creative careers.
What’s the Event Format?
The event will feature speed networking sessions. After a quick introduction from our team, your students will be able to meet a range of professionals who do all sorts of creative things in Sheffield for organisations, as sole traders or as freelancers. We’ll guide you and your students through quick, meaningful conversations so that they can find out about the types of jobs available, how people got started as well as tips for the future.

Times:
Pre-booked School Groups: 13:00 PM and 14:00 PM
Each school can bring up to 15 students from Y7 to Y13. Please contact laura@createsheffield.co.uk if you want to bring a bigger group.
If you are unable to bring a group but have students who would be interested in attending, then they would be welcome at our drop-in for young people (with or without an adult): 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM
