Jenny Coats Create-ED

Jenny Coats is an arts educator and teacher offering out-of-school art clubs and workshops as well as in-school specialist art projects. She also provides arts training and CPD to schools. She is particularly interested in reflecting the natural world through art and ways that art and nature can enhance young people's wellbeing.

She is a qualified and highly experienced Sheffield-based teacher. Jenny is also an artist-facilitator and offer art enrichment and subject support to schools. Full details of her offer can be found on her website.

Currently, her own art focusses on mapping the changing seasons through nature studies, she is keen to work with schools on similar projects with children to support them to connect not only with their own creativity but also more deeply with the natural world.

Children, young people, families, schools and communities offer:

After-school Arts Clubs

She has developed an exciting programme of after-school art clubs. These are 1-hour sessions which focus on an aspect of art over a half term such as painting, mask-making, clay relief tiles and often follow the children's interests.

Arts Enrichment Days and projects in schools

As an art-educator, Jenny can also lead arts projects with classes in schools. Examples of such projects include:

  • #52WeeksofNature - an on-going project where children learn to notice and draw the natural world as it changes over the year.

  • World Book Day Costumes - a project to design and make costumes in preparation for World Book Day.

  • Me, You, Us - A portraiture-based project focusing on identity and printing techniques.

These can be tailored to the school's needs, in line with their curriculum so that they don’t feel like ‘add-ons’ but enhance the curriculum offer. By working with a class and teacher over time, I am able to not only develop excellent outcomes but also develop the teacher’s confidence.

Community-based Family Workshops

Family Workshops are locally hosted only. Sessions have focussed on watercolour botanicals and she can offer a wide range of other sessions including Batik painting, Willow sculpture, Clay Relief tiles.

Teacher Training, School-based CPD and Consultancy

Jenny understand’s the challenges which make providing an excellent art curriculum difficult. Through bespoke training, developing art leaders and specific tailored sessions, she can support schools to develop their whole curriculum or a specific part.

Her training is focussed on ensuring all staff have the confidence and competence to get messy and allow children to get creative. Staff meetings, INSET, art subject leader training and bespoke support and consultancy are all options as part of the offer.
